Day 13 Daly Waters

It’s inexplicable why the pub in Daly Waters is famous. There is nothing remarkable about the town. In fact, it’s a pretty ordinary town. It’s dusty, a touch shabby, rundown and in the middle of nowhere. Whatever the reason for its fame, it’s a remarkably enjoyable stop. Sarah is the designated social butterfly and she’s had several recommendations to make sure we visit the Daly Waters Pub. We arrive about 2 and are quickly followed by several hundred others. The park is overflowing as a touring motorcycle group from Rockhampton makes their rather boisterous arrival. Harley after Harley streams loudly past as they prepare for their night at the famous pub. Beef and Barra’ is the specialty and, as recommended, we ‘book early to avoid disappointment. The entertainment is a bush comedian/poet/singer called Chillie and he proves a great hit. Jake particularly enjoys the show. Maybe a little too much. Sarah is baffled the next day during school when he asks what bowels are. I have to explain the previous evening’s story about a trip to hospital and an authoritative nurse demanding to know whether Chillie had ‘moved his bowels’. Seems not understanding a joke is no deterrent to laughing hysterically at the joke. Especially if it involves bowels. Oh to be 10 again.......
