Day 27 Litchfield- Douglas Hot Springs

We've had a great time in Litchfield and it has certainly met and exceeded our expectations, but it is time to move on. We set off early for DouglasHot Springs, about 150km to the south. The drive passes quickly with the usual school then movie and we are soon on the short 10km stretch of unsealed road that leads into the hot springs. The camp ground is very basic and I'm immediately suspect of our surrounds. It's hot, dry, dusty and certainly not very appealing. After setting up we head down to the springs and the charm of the area is on show. There is a fairly fast flowing stream about 3 metres across at its widest point. There is plenty of vegetation and most of the water is in the shade. The really interesting part is when you feel the water. The majority of the water is a pleasant 25 degrees but there are pockets of warm water, around 35 degrees. The warm water is seeping out

of the ground from random spot in the river! Wading through the water I find myself checking to make sure someone isn't wee-ing around me and creating the warm patch I'm sitting in! Thankfully, that's never the case. As we explore further we find another stream of very hot water, around 50 degrees, that is also helping to warm the main stream. Swimming in the area proves a very relaxing way to spend an afternoon. Tomorrow, back to Katherine.
