Day 28 Katherine- Edith Falls

It's a late start today as we don't have much planned. The drive to Katherine is about 3 hours but we will stop along the way at Edith Falls

for a hike and swim. Edith Falls is only about 50 Km north of Katherine and it is part of the same system that forms Katherine Gorge, which we will see in a couple of days. If you're getting the feeling there's a lot of water around here, you're right. It's everywhere you look. Part of the fascination we feel for the land, is just how much it changes between the wet and the dry seasons. Edith Gorge is similar to others we've seen in that there is a large fall and pool at the bottom and, if you're prepared to walk, you can see a smaller pool and fall further up an escarpment. We make our way uphill about 2 Km to the smaller pool and we're immediately glad we did. The fall is a large one, not particularly high, but an enormous amount of water flowing down. It's a refreshing swim after the long, hot walk and it is quickly voted as being worth the walk. There is a professional photo shoot taking place as we leave, complete with a couple of models in various outfits and swimwear. I'm ashamed to note I'm more interested in how the photographer is taking the photos than the models.... Straight to the hall of mirrors for me. We complete the walk and then set off for Katherine. It's a quiet day tomorrow as we await the arrival of our friends, Cath, John, Bridgette, Alice and Suzy Muir, from Melbourne (some of you probably recognise them as being from Perth originally). It will be a big catch up with them tomorrow.
